The Man behind the Chair
John Hart was elected as the new Club Chairman at the 2018 AGM in April. Congratulated on his appointment by the outgoing chairman Mike Foers, John expressed his thanks to the people who were standing down from key positions on the Committee and welcomed their replacements. Tony Savage joins as the new Club Secretary and Steve Gildersleve who joins the committee as Vice Chairman. “I look forward to working with the new committee over the coming year,” he added.
He has been a member of the Club for only a relatively short time but has enjoyed being involved and looks forward to his time as Chairman. He frankly admits that it was something of a shock being persuaded to undertake the role so soon after joining, but hopes that his youth and enthusiasm will help to make it a smooth transition leading to a successful year. How did this upstart become chairman so soon after joining? “Well, I’m wondering about that too,” said John.
John worked at the Building Research Establishment in Watford looking into things such as thermal performance and the indoor environment of buildings, energy conservation, infrared thermography and fuel cells. He retired from BRE in 2014. A fellow of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating, he now enjoys photography, gardening and DIY. And to relax he plays the electric organ keyboard and drums and dabbles in astronomy and model boat building. John has lived in St Albans since the age of three; he is married to Jan and they have two, now grown up, daughters.
