The Club. The Probus Club of St Albans is primarily a luncheon club for retired professional and business men providing regular opportunities for them to meet others with like interests. With a membership of approximately 45, lunchtime meetings are held monthly.
The Club is run through a Committee elected at an Annual General Meeting, assisted by Sub-committees, as necessary. It is self-financing and non-profit making. It is not involved in fund raising and costs are kept to a reasonable level.
Club lunches. These take place on the last Thursday of each month at Verulam Golf Club. We first assemble in the bar before sitting down for a two-course lunch. This is usually followed by a speaker.
Wives, partners and widows run an associated Group that organises its own lunches. They join with us for our Special Summer and Christmas Lunches.
Coffee mornings. Monthly coffee mornings are held on the second Thursday of each month at the same venue. They are informal and last about an hour. The ladies organise their own coffee mornings.
Days out. We combine with our sister club, Probus Verulamium, for day trips. Travel is usually by coach.
Annual holidays. An annual holiday is arranged for members and ladies. It generally lasts 5-6 days, staying at reasonably priced hotels, and including a full programme of days out. Members of Probus Verulamium are also invited to join us and vice versa.
