The Mayor of St Albans, Annie Brewster attended a lunch to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the founding of the Probus Club of St Albans on 30 January. The event was held at the Quality Hotel, the very same place as the first one thirty years ago; then called the Haven Hotel. It too took place at the end of January. The hotel General Manger, Ed Flanagan said it was a great honour to welcome the Mayor and the club for their celebratory lunch.
The Mayor was presented with a copy of the Club’s history by the Chairman, Gerald Frizelle. Written by Rob Weston, a former Chairman and edited by Mike Foers, another club member, the book recounts how the Club was set up to provide opportunities for retired professional and business men from a wide spectrum of backgrounds to meet socially. It also relates the growing number of activities the Club now provides.
The Mayor congratulated the club on its 30th birthday and commented on the eclectic background of the membership. She thought their collective experience could support her efforts to promote St Albans as a place to invest in and visit.
